Cinestill 50D which is a daylight color balanced color negative motion picture film. The remjet backing has been removed making easily developed as c-41 and gives a unique halation effect. It's an incredibly fine grained film with unrivaled exposure latitude which is why we recommend erring on overexposure when shooting this film.

Hello friends! Another day, another fun film stock review. Today we are diving into Cinestill 50D! A few months ago, I splurged on some fun rolls of film, and CineStill 50D and CineStill 800T were the two I was the most excited to try out.

While excellent for bright light Cinestill 50D at f/2.8 was giving me shutter speeds from 1/2 a second to a full ten second exposure at one point. When shooting the Subway with faster 400 speed films in my Leica M6 and 90mm at f/2 I was setting my shutter fairly consistently at 1/30ths - 125ths which gave me images I was much happier with.

CineStill 50D is pricey at close to $11 per 135 roll. This post is not a review; I've only shot one roll of 135, I just thought I'd show how the roll turned out. With all the incidentals out of the way, let's move on to some samples. Click pictures for larger versions. A course that Jack built. A typically 'smooth' look for this film.

Review CineStill 50D Film

When seeing other photos taken on Cinestill 50D by other people I find that there is also this difference between some photos looking really good and others looking dark and having dull colours. I have found that with 800T it is fairly easy to colour correct scans that often can be too blue in tone. When this film is shot in daylight however.

You can shoot Cinestill 50D in either a 35mm or 120mm medium format film camera. I use a 35mm Leica MP film body. Behind a Leica lens, which is all about fine details and an emphasis on working with the natural and available light, Cinestill 50D comes alive.
